GOP Announces $6 Million Plan to Recruit Women, Minorities

The Republican National Committee will invest at least $6 million next year in a bid to elect at least 150 more women and minorities, The Tennessean reports.

"We need more women leaders," RNC co-chair Sharon Day said at the Republican State Leadership Committee’s "Right Women, Right Now" summit in Nashville.

"There's nothing wrong with our great Republican message except we need more women talking about our message."

While 53 percent of the nation's electorate are women, just 23 percent hold top positions of governor, senator, attorney general, and secretary of state, The Tennessean reports.

Women account for 18 percent of lawmakers in Congress overall, while women make up just 8 percent of the Republican membership in Congress.
