A new polling memo commissioned by Republican strategists carries an old message for GOP candidates: Attacking Nancy Pelosi is the key to victory in November, the Washington Examiner reports.

A poll commissioned by Super PAC Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) in the aftermath of Troy Balderson's slim victory in Ohio's 12th district found that Pelosi had a 61 percent unfavorable rating, perhaps enough to have pushed Balderson over the edge in that special election, the Examiner reported.

"Some in the media have attempted to say that Nancy Pelosi is not a useful lighting rod for GOP campaigns to tie their opponent to, but the survey data will show how divisive Pelosi can be,” CLF pollster Gene Ulm wrote in the memo shared with the Examiner.

The strategists believe the same holds true for other battleground House races as Republicans fight and claw to hold onto their majority. Attack the House minority leader, early and often.

“Democratic candidates are going to be bludgeoned with Nancy Pelosi and everything she says and does,” Ulm told the Examiner.
