Conservative reaction was swift to the Democratic boycott of a confirmation vote on Steven Mnuchin for Treasury secretary and Tom Price for Health and Human Services secretary.
Lawmakers spoke to reporters and took to Twitter to voice their displeasure that confirmation of President Donald Trump's picks had been thwarted at least temporarily.
"I think they ought to stop posturing and acting like idiots," Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah said, according to The Washington Post.
Hatch also fumed: "I'm very disappointed in this kind of crap. … Some of this is because they just don't like the president."
"We did not inflict this kind of obstructionism on President Obama. [This is] a completely unprecedented level of obstruction," said Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania. "This is not what the American people expect of the United States Senate."
"I think this is unconscionable," Sen. Mike Enzi of Wyoming said.
According to CBS News, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said the boycott "denied President Trump two more of his cabinet members" … Democrats "continue to criticize [the Trump administration] even though they deny them the team they need to do their job."
