The 2020 Republican National Convention theme will be “Honoring the Great American Story,” Fox News reported — and include Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., among the speakers.
According to the news outlet, which cited unnamed sources, the Trump campaign on Thursday held back-to-back phone calls with GOP members of Congress to review themes for the event in Charlotte, N.C.
The GOP’s theme is in “stark contrast to the doom and gloom message we expect to hear from career politicians at the DNC convention,” Fox News quoted the source saying.
According to Ballotpedia, the first day of the convention, Monday, Aug. 24, will be focused on a “land of heroes” theme; on Tuesday, it’ll be “land of promise.” On Wednesday, the focus will be on “land of opportunity” and on Thursday, “land of greatness.”
Besides Scott, another speaker on the list will be Tanya Weinreis, owner of Mountain Mudd Espresso in Montana, a local espresso drive-thru business, Fox News reported.
Weinreis said the PPP loan she received was key to her survival during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The loss of sales was scary—I was nervous this would ruin the business. The large corporations like Starbucks could withstand it, but I didn’t know if we could,” Weinreis told Fox News.
“[The PPP loan] will allow us to continue paying our employees, as well as covering other operational costs like rent and utilities. Now we can give back to the community in a meaningful way.”
Another speaker will be a Sergeant of the St. Louis Metro Police Department, Ann Dorn, whose husband, retired St. Louis police captain David Dorn, was killed while protecting a pawn shop during a night of violent looting, Fox News reported.
“A few hundred delegates” will be in Charlotte on the first day of the convention for party business — including the formal nomination of President Donald Trump, Fox News reported.
