Who is benefiting from the large crop of potential Republican presidential candidates? Clearly the media, which has a slew of stories to cover about all of them. But state GOP parties are benefiting too. That’s because the possible candidates are appearing at party fundraisers throughout the land to introduce themselves to voters,
Politico reports.
The fundraisers can generate more than $100,000 a pop. And it’s a simple equation. The potential candidates are eager to get the public aware of their existence, and donors like to attend events that feature national Republican figures.
“It’s a huge asset to any state that participates in that process and can take advantage of it,” Saul Anuzis, a former Michigan GOP chairman, told The Hill. “Having these candidates come through your states helps you drive attendance, and being able to drive attendance helps you drive ticket sales.”
