Any FBI agent who lied to a judge to get a warrant to snoop on Trump campaign aides should be jailed on contempt of court charges, Rep. Louie Gohmert told Fox News Wednesday.
Appearing on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program, the Texas Republican referenced a recent GOP-written memo that claimed the judge who granted warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) wasn't told that the information came from an unverified dossier paid for in part by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton.
"The judge should be livid in the fact that these guys didn't go to jail for contempt. And there are a couple kinds of contempt. You can have a contempt where a judge has a hearing, sort out the facts, but if a fraud is presented to the court and the court's manipulated, you don't have to have a hearing," Gohmert said.
"And these people should be in jail for what they did," he added.
Gohmert, a former judge, said either the judge was duped or "was part of all this."
"If somebody lied to us in court, and especially a lawyer, we would be after their license to practice law."
In any event, Gohmert said the justice system is biased.
"Clearly, the FBI covered for Hillary Clinton, the DOJ [Department of Justice] covered for Hillary Clinton, and we have got to get the facts out," he said.
An unreleased Democrat-written memo disputes many of the claims in the Republican memo, which was released last week.
