The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee is demanding the FBI release the newly found text messages between anti-Trump FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, Fox News is reporting.

"I respectfully request that the (Justice) Department produce all text messages newly recovered or received by Peter Strzok and Lisa Page for the period Dec. 14, 2016 to May 17, 2017," reads a letter dated Jan. 31 from the panel, which oversees the FBI.

The letter was signed by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., the committee chairman.

The Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz informed lawmakers last week his office recovered texts sent between Strzok and Page over a five-month period ending in May 2017.

The department had previously informed lawmakers text messages between the two for that time period had been lost.

Fox News noted Strzok and Page had come under scrutiny after reportedly exchanging anti-Trump and pro-Clinton messages.

President Donald Trump and his Republican allies have cited text messages the two exchanged during the campaign to allege the investigation into Russia's interference in the election is politically tainted.

Strzok was a member of the FBI team looking into Hillary Clinton's email server. He was later a member of special counsel Robert Mueller's team, according to CNN.
