The co-founder of the opposition research firm that ordered an unsubstantiated dossier on President Donald Trump during the campaign will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week.
Glenn Simpson, who founded Fusion GPS in Washington in 2009, will testify in public session on Wednesday, according to the panel's schedule.
The committee will address oversight of federal laws requiring Americans to register with the government if they lobby for foreign entities.
Fusion GPS hired Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to investigate Trump.
The unsubstantiated dossier, which was published by BuzzFeed in January, claimed that Trump and Russia worked together to torpedo Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Earlier that month, U.S. intelligence officials briefed then-President Barack Obama and Trump, who was president-elect, on the dossier.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican, last month threatened to subpoena Fusion GPS if it had not provided information about the report, according to news reports.
