President Donald Trump reportedly discussed pardoning his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, though the former New York City mayor has not been charged with any crimes, according to The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, Trump and Giuliani discussed the issue as recently as last week, although the Times does not report which of the two first brought up a preemptive pardon, but it does note that the two have talked about a pardon for Giuliani before, citing unnamed sources.
Giuliani tweeted after the report: “#FakeNews NYT lies again. Never had the discussion they falsely attribute to an anonymous source. Hard to keep up with all their lies."
His attorney told the Hill: “Rudy Giuliani has responded that this report is false and such a conversation never happened. That should clarify the situation. It is just another false attack.”
Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday suggested that Trump should consider issuing a pardon for himself and for people in his family following an opinion piece from a former member of special counsel Robert Mueller’s team that said the president should be investigated and possibly prosecuted once he leaves office.
