Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will host a fundraising event for the re-election campaign of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Aug. 24 in the tony New York Hamptons.
The $3,800-a-head event will take place at the Southampton home of Clifford Sobel, ambassador to Brazil under President George W. Bush. Sobel's home also played host last year to a fundraiser for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney,
The Hill reports.
John Loeb, ambassador to Denmark under President Ronald Reagan, and Joseph Plumeri, CEO of the Willis Group insurance brokerage,
are co-hosting the fundraiser.
The New Jersey governor is widely expected to run for president in 2016. Giuliani made a bid for the White House himself in 2008. Both men are moderates hailing from Democratic states.
In a speech at the Republican National Committee meeting Thursday in Boston Christie said the GOP would do better to focus on winning elections rather than attaining
ideological purity.
"We are not a debating society. We are a political operation that needs to win," he said. "My job is to win . . . Our job is not to be college professors."
