Adm. Brett Giroir, White House coronavirus testing czar, acknowledged the government needs to do “better job” rolling out the COVID-19 vaccines.
Giroir made his comments during a Wednesday interview on the CNN show, “The Lead.” A video excerpt of his interview was posted on the show’s Twitter account.
"Of course, we need to be doing a better job, but all vaccine programs start somewhat slow," Giroir said.
He predicted distribution of the vaccines would increase in the days ahead.
"I know we will be distributing about 30 million more in January and potentially up to 50 million more in February," he said. “I don’t have the exact projections about how many we will be doing a week.
“There were lot of predictions and projections even before the first vaccine was authorized. We’ve been pretty clear for about three weeks that this is the schedule we’re on.
“There are clearly vaccines out there that have not been given. We’re only 16 days into this campaign. We do expect a very rapid ramp up in vaccines in arms.
“Vaccines on the shelves are no good. They need to get into people’s arms. We are leaving no stone unturned to do that.”
Giroir had said earlier in December the vaccinations mean “we can see the end” of the pandemic.
