It is "inconceivable" that President Donald Trump will be impeached and convicted, but he does make too many decisions on his own, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday.
"I would advise to go slightly slower and listen more carefully," Gingrich said while on "CBS This Morning" to discuss his new book, "Trump Vs. China: Facing America's Greatest Threat."
"They could have avoided the whole Doral (G-7) thing by simply checking with five or 10 people. And the reaction would have been so negative the president would have said, OK, that's not doable."
Gingrich, who led the impeachment effort against former President Bill Clinton, said he does think Trump needs to "relax" as the impeachment talk swirls.
"Rely on the Senate," Gingrich said. "I read a study that said [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi not only can't play chess or checkers, she can't play tic-tac-toe...if they pass it in the House and it goes to the Senate, guess what the first thing [Sen.] Lindsey Graham is going to do? He's going to unmask who the whistleblower is. They're not thinking about this."
Further, there are "radically different" aspects separating Trump and Clinton. With Clinton, there was a report from independent counsel Ken Starr that used the word "guilty 11 times," said Gingrich. "When the report came out from Robert Mueller I said if Mueller had said guilty two or three times, Trump would have been in enormous trouble."
In addition, the case against Trump is a "total kangaroo trial and a violation of everything in terms of the American system," Gingrich said.
