Gingrich and Pets: Campaign to Show Softer Side

By    |   Friday, 23 December 2011 01:06 PM EST

The Gingrich campaign has a plan to show voters a kinder, gentler Newt: the guy who loves animals.

The Georgian’s presidential campaign is launching a new website, “Pets With Newt,” to show a softer side of the candidate.

The former House speaker told ABC News he’s a big animal lover.

“As speaker I made it possible for people in public housing to keep their pets in 1988. I love pets so we’re going to have an entire project,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich doesn’t actually have a pet right now but he said he wants a dog when he moves into the White House. The big question is what kind: He wants a big dog, like a Great Dane, while wife Callista wants a smaller canine companion.

The campaign also plans to release a music education video featuring Callista, who is a classically trained musician and singer.
