Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says there's good reason for tensions between U.S. intelligence agencies and President-elect Donald Trump – and hopes there'll be an overhaul.
In an interview Sunday on CBS News' "Face The Nation," Gingrich, who serves as Trump's adviser, blasted the intel community over the release of an unsubstantiated dossier alleging deep ties between Moscow and Trump during the presidential campaign.
"I don't think there should be a good relationship right now," Gingrich said. "The very top people who are political appointees, I think absolutely betrayed and undermined the intelligence community. I think they acted in ways that were totally inappropriate."
Trump should call for an overhaul once he takes office, he added.
"I hope what he does is say to the new director of national intelligence, Dan Coats, I expect you to thoroughly overhaul the entire community,'" he said.
