Georgia election officials plan to begin on Friday a so-called risk-limiting audit to ensure the votes were accurately counted before certifying the results, NBC News reported.
In the audit, a statistically meaningful sample of ballots will be examined by hand to see whether the declared winner truly won. The audit is mathematically designed to catch anomalies that would arise from misconfigured machines, procedural errors or intentional attack, NBC News reported.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Wednesday the state’s review will produce “over 90 percent confidence level” in the results and certification will be reached by Nov. 13, the news outlet reported.
Georgia is a key battleground in the 2020 presidential race, and a state where President Donald Trump led as of Thursday — but by just 12,765 votes, with 2% of the vote left to be counted.
Also on Thursday, Chatham County Superior Court Judge James Bass dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign over the state's handling of absentee ballots.
