George Allen Prepares 2012 Senate Bid in Virginia

Former Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen apparently wants his job back. He’s laying the groundwork to do exactly that in the 2012 election, Politico reports. Allen apparently hopes to take down George Allen, Virginia, Senate, Jim Webbfreshman Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, who took his seat in 2006.

Allen recently met with National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn to talk over a potential campaign. He’s also appearing at bunch of public events, donating cash to other Republicans through his political action committee and has set up a Facebook page.

Allen informed Republican members of Congress from Virginia earlier in the year that he’s considering a bid for the Senate. "He's been telling people privately for a couple weeks that he's in,” a GOP lobbyist involved in Virginia politics told Politico. “It definitely seems like he's running."
