President Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee are on track to raise more than $2 billion for his re-election bid, according to Republican fundraisers who spoke to the Washington Examiner.

The Trump campaign and its joint fundraising committees with the GOP raised $105 million in the second quarter, according to CNBC, and fundraisers in the GOP say he could raise between $2 billion and $2.5 billion, about four times what he raised in 2016.
“With that kind of money, we’ll be hard to beat,” said an unnamed Trump insider, although they did note that Trump’s 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton, raised twice as much money as he did and still lost.

One GOP fundraiser told the Examiner’s Washington Secrets that many high-income donors have been eager to donate due the the GOP tax cuts, deregulation and Trump’s success in appointing conservative judges.

“I raised six figures from a businessman who got a tax refund of seven figures. It’s the same dynamic for middle-income Americans — they’re more likely to support us with $5, $20, or $100 because they see the difference in their own paycheck and want to keep it going,” one fundraiser said.
