Fox Business host Neil Cavuto panned President Donald Trump’s press conference with Vladimir Putin, calling his performance "disgusting."
Cavuto made the comments on his Monday "Your World" show in the aftermath of Trump’s press conference with the Russian president in Helsinki.
After a guest pointed out that the press conference was Trump’s opportunity to warn Putin against meddling in future elections on the world’s stage, Cavuto slammed the president for failing to do so.
"But he didn't. And that's what made it disgusting, that's what made his performance disgusting," Cavuto said. "I'm sorry, it's the only way I feel. It's not a right or left thing to me, it's just wrong.
"A U.S. president on foreign soil talking to our biggest enemy, or adversary, or competitor — I don't know how we define them these days - is essentially letting the guy get away with this and not even offering a mild — a mild — criticism. That sets us back a lot," Cavuto said.
Cavuto’s criticism mirrored that from other Republicans, from Senate Republicans to Speaker Paul Ryan, who admonished Trump in varying degrees.
Even Trump advocate Newt Gingrich said siding with Putin is the "most serious mistake" of Trump’s presidency. Sen. John McCain called the conference a "tragic mistake."
Cavuto would later say that he’d give Trump the benefit of the doubt, chalking up the president’s performance to "jet lag."
"But holy moly," Cavuto said.
