Florida Gov. Rick Scott has brought in $3.2 million in the first three weeks of his campaign to unseat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, the Washington Examiner is reporting.
The contributions came from individual donors and not Scott himself. Scott, a Republican, contributed $73 million to his 2010 bid for Florida governor, according to the Examiner. He put in another $13 million in his 2014 re-election bid.
"It is clear that Americans are ready to see a change in Washington,” Scott said. "I appreciate the support of everyone who has helped us reach this incredible announcement today, but this is just the start. I look forward to continuing to tell Floridians why we need to get rid of the career politicians and make Washington work for us."
Scott is hoping to raise $110 million for his campaign, the Examiner reported.
Meanwhile, his campaign said his initial $3.2 million haul is the same amount of funding raised by Bill Nelson’s campaign in the entire first quarter of this year,” according to the Tampa Bay Times.
