The Florida Republican Party intends to use House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi as a weapon in the congressional elections of 2014.
The party has a “Prevent Pelosi Project” that Florida GOP Chairman Lenny Curry plans to discuss with the state’s Republican congressional delegation in Washington on Wednesday,
Politico reports.
The campaign was motivated in part by the success Republican Mark Sanford had in using Pelosi as a bogeywoman in the special congressional race in South Carolina that he won last week.
"If Mark Sanford can make a political comeback by campaigning against Nancy Pelosi in just three weeks, imagine what we can do for 29 congressional districts over the next 18 months," Curry said in a statement about the project, according to Politico.
John Rood, a finance chairman for Mitt Romney in Florida who was also ambassador to the Bahamas, will lead a national fundraising campaign for the Pelosi project.
Politico reports that a solicitation signed by Curry will go out this week saying, "For millions of Americans, the notion of personal responsibility will be replaced by massive new government entitlement programs that promise benefits cradle-to-grave. Radical Islamists will continue to attack us with impunity, because under the leadership of Obama and Pelosi our enemies will no longer fear us, and our allies will no longer trust us."
The mailer also says, "Without Pelosi as Speaker of the House from 2009-2010, ObamaCare would have failed. The so-called 'Stimulus' to create phantom 'shovel-ready' jobs wouldn't have been spent. Solyndra and other businesses run by Obama cronies wouldn't have wasted billions of tax dollars. And our $8 trillion national debt would not have doubled to over $16 trillion.
"Without Pelosi twisting arms and making deals to pass his radical agenda, Barack Obama would be just another failed, one-term president."
