Florida Poll: Gillum, Scott Hold Small Leads

A new poll shows Florida voters favor Democrat Andrew Gillum in the race for governor and Republican Rick Scott in the race for U.S. Senate, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Center for Polling and Policy Research at Florida Southern College found in a survey released on Monday that Gillum and Scott hold slim leads over their opponents in the upcoming elections, Ron DeSantis and Bill Nelson.

•    Gillum: 47 percent.
•    DeSantis: 44 percent.
•    Scott: 46 percent.
•    Nelson: 44.5 percent.

The poll also shows that Gillum holds a large advantage with Hispanic voters and independents, and that DeSantis leads among men while Gillum is preferred by women. Scott has more support among men, white people and older voters, while Nelson is favored by women, young, black, and Hispanic voters.

Florida voters are evenly split on President Donald Trump, with equal numbers approving and disapproving of his job performance.

•    Approve of Trump: 48 percent.
•    Disapprove of Trump: 48 percent.

The poll surveyed 499 respondents, including 476 likely voters, by phone from October 1 to Oct. 5, with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points.
