Democrats are holding slim leads in Florida's Senate and gubernatorial races, according to a new NBC News/Marist poll released Monday.
Incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson is ahead of Republican challenger Gov. Rick Scott by 4 percentage points, with 50 percent support among likely voters surveyed, compared to 46 percent for Scott, reports CNBC.
In the race for governor, Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is leading former GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis by 4 points as well.
Both leads are within the poll's 5 percentage point margin of error.
If Nelson wins, that could keep Republicans from growing their majority in the Senate, while if Gillum wins, that would change the party control of the state governor's office, where he could pursue expanding federal and state Medicaid programs.
The poll has the two Democrats leading among women, independent voters, African-Americans, and Latinos, while Scott and DeSantis are leading among whites, men, and senior citizens.
Likely voters also see Nelson and Gillum more favorably:
-
45 percent favor Nelson; 42 see him unfavorably.
-
42 percent see Scott favorably; 50 percent unfavorably.
-
48 percent see Gillum favorably; 40 percent see him unfavorably.
-
43 percent see DeSantis favorably; 45 percent unfavorably.
The poll was conducted by phone between Oct. 30-Nov. 1, and carried an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. The margin of error for 917 registered voters was plus or minus 4.1 percentage points, and among 595 likely voters, plus or minus 5.0 percentage points.
