Two Republican lawmakers from Florida, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Carlos Curbelo, are blasting President Donald Trump for reportedly referring to Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as "sh**hole countries."
"The statements of the president are reprehensible, they're racist (and) they're totally incorrect," Ros-Lehtinen told CBS Miami.
"Talking about Haiti saying it's a 'sh** country' — this is a pattern of racist statements. This is a man who made his name in the political world doubting President (Barack) Obama's citizenship. Then he launched his campaign saying that Mexicans are rapists and criminals (and) banning all Muslims temporarily from coming to the United States.
"(He was) slow to condemn racists like David Duke in Charlottesville, Virginia. when there were white racists against other folks. He was saying there was blame on both sides. No there wasn't."
According to The Washington Post, Trump's comment about the countries came Thursday when he met with lawmakers in the Oval Office. Under discussion at the time was restoring Temporary Protected Status for some of the immigrants and a proposed bipartisan deal on saving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Curbelo said the reported remarks were an insult.
Since then, however, Trump has denied using the vulgar language when referring to the counties in question.
