Wasserman Schultz Prepares Democrat Welcome for Christie in Florida

By    |   Tuesday, 14 January 2014 08:54 PM EST

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be "rolling out the red carpet" for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie during his GOP fundraising trip to the Sunshine state, but she'll also be taking steps to attack him over the bridge-gate scandal, a DNC official told Politico Tuesday,

Christie will spend this weekend on a fundraiser tour for Gov. Rick Scott, who is up for reelection. It's Christie’s first major political stomp as president of the Republican Governors Association since he became embroiled in the ever-expanding George Washington Bridge scandal.

Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chair, will closely follow Christie, attacking his record as well as Scott's. Details of the counter-offensive have not been finalized, but Bridge-gate will be a focal point, the official said.

Christie is considered a GOP frontrunner for the president in 2016. But since the lane closures on the bridge in September, he has seen his popularity sink amongst voters, making him a possible political liability if he were to run for the Oval Office.
