Real Clear Politics Shifts Arizona Senate Race to Toss-Up

By    |   Thursday, 27 September 2012 12:00 PM EDT

Real Clear Politics has changed its assessment of the Arizona Senate race between GOP Rep. Jeff Flake and Democrat Richard Carmona to a toss-up. The race originally leaned Republican.

The change came Wednesday, the same day as the release of a Rasmussen Reports poll showing Flake with a lead of 47 percent to 41 percent over Carmona, a former U.S. surgeon general.

The poll was taken Tuesday and has a 4.5 percentage-point margin of error.

Flake has actually increased his margin from the only other poll listed by Real Clear – a survey taken by Public Policy Polling Sept. 7-9 and showing Flake ahead 44 to 43 percent.

Other states Real Clear rates as toss-ups include Connecticut, Indiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The GOP needs to pick up four seats to regain control of the Senate.
