News reports that a lead investigator into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server had exchanged anti-Trump texts with a colleague show the probe, and consequently, one conducted into Russian involvement in the 2016 election, were tainted, Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., said Monday.
"If you look at the Hillary probe, remember all the things that were curious about it," DeSantis told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "They bent over backwards not to make a case against Hillary."
The New York Times reported Saturday that FBI Agent Peter Strzok, widely considered one of the agency's most experienced and trusted, was reassigned this summer after the texts were discovered.
FBI special counsel Robert Mueller was "not up front about this" DeSantis also added, even though he had reassigned Strzok months ago.
"[Rep] Devin Nunes [R-Calif.] has been trying to get information from DOJ and the FBI for months and they've stonewalled every step of the way," DeSantis added. "So if you're just trying to search for truth, why are you stonewalling the answer that is the American people deserve?"
Meanwhile, there is "nothing wrong" with a presidential transition team reaching out to other countries, said the lawmaker.
