Nobody is going to want the "thankless job" left vacant by fired FBI Director James Comey, MSNBC host Greta Van Susteren said Tuesday night.
The legal veteran said Comey's abrupt firing has created a "mess."
"The president has to find someone who the Republican members of the Senate are going to say 'this is a great person' – and so are the Democrats," she said. "And good luck finding that person. . . . I don't know where you're going to find that person, because this really is a thankless job because of the mess it's in.
"We're in the middle of investigations involving Russia, involving the president of the United States, and perhaps the former National Security Adviser Gen. [Michael] Flynn. I don't know who else. . . . You tell me who wants it."
She added the FBI could be in for a wild ride – but should be focused on "security and certainty."
"If you really want to rock the place, here's an idea: Put someone in to be new head of the FBI who doesn't know the FBI, or who wants to go in and change the leadership and disrupt it," she said.
"The best thing you can do is give them security and certainty and not have somebody come in and change all the heads of departments, have everybody wonder about jobs."
"It's like a corporation," she added. "If you really want to rattle a corporation, bring in a new CEO and have that new CEO start firing people. People that others like in the corporation. The same is true of the FBI."
