The FBI's rank and file members deserve "better leadership" than they have had, and the people who were behind investigating President Donald Trump under claims he was working at the behest of Moscow should be held accountable, former Arkansas GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee said Monday.
"I'm really hoping that there will be people truly held accountable," Huckabee told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "Not just fired, but I'm talking about truly held accountable, and some need to be prosecuted for using their positions as a political weapon against elected officials."
He added it scares him to know the FBI can decide on its own to investigate a president just "because they want to," Huckabee added.
"This is incredibly damaging to the way our constitutional republic is supposed to work," he said. "For me, there was a bombshell, and it wasn't that President Trump made a joke about Hillary [Clinton's] 30,000 emails. What is a bombshell is that you have the highest law enforcement agency in the country that decides to go after, on a clandestine investigation, the president of the United States."
Huckabee also commented had the FBI decided to investigate former Presidents Bill Clinton or Barack Obama, or anyone else, because they had heard "something based on rumor," there would have been a large reaction.
"This is really, really scary stuff if you stop and think about it," Huckabee said.
