Desperate Democrats are trying to blunt the Republican onslaught by gaining ground on the taxation front. Several Democratic candidates are running ads that attack the FairTax idea, which is supported by many Republicans, claiming it will raise taxes,
The Hill reports. But the Democrats aren’t honestly presenting the GOP position, FactCheck.org explains.

The FairTax idea is to replace the federal income tax with a 23 percent sales tax on everything, including the purchase of a new home or car.
But Democrats who have run their ads in 16 congressional districts claiming that Republicans want to raise taxes often neglect to mention that the sales tax would replace income taxes.
“Democrats are accusing Republicans of supporting a 23 percent sales tax on everything, which would be on top of all existing taxes. "It’s misrepresenting by omission of the FairTax idea,” says FactCheck.org director Brooks Jackson. “When people try to sell it on false evidence we step in.”
