Democrat Janet Mills might be on the verge of flipping the Maine governor's mansion to blue, leading Republican Shawn Moody by 8 points 50-42 percent in the latest Emerson College poll.
Four percent of the potential voters remain undecided.
Current Republican Gov. Paul LePage has served two terms and is restricted from running again by term limits.
The RealClear Politics analysis has shown the race trended toward Mills after being tied in an August poll.
The high unfavorability of President Donald Trump might be the reason for Mills' surge. President Trump is viewed unfavorably by 55 percent and favorably by 41 percent in the poll.
Mills has a plus-10 favorability rating (48 percent favorable, 38 percent unfavorable), while Moody is just plus-2 (43-41 percent).
Interestingly, in a hypothetical ballot for Sen. Susan Collins', R-Maine, seat shows her trumping Obama administration Democrat Susan Rice by 24 points (44-20 percent).
Emerson College polled 883 potential voters between Oct. 27-29 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
