Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Donald Trump Jr.'s email release Tuesday about last year's meeting with a Russian lawyer, according to news reports.
The details of the June 6, 2016 meeting were not known until recently to the FBI and other federal investigators, CNN reported.
Mueller's Justice Department investigation will now examine the emails Trump Jr. released Tuesday, the cable network reported, citing a "U.S. official briefed on the matter."
The session was first disclosed recently by Jared Kushner, Trump Jr.'s brother-in-law, who was in attendance with Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
Kushner amended his application for a security clearance. He also is a top White House adviser.
A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment, CNN reported, and an attorney for Trump Jr. did not respond to a request for comment.
