Former Hillary Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook on Tuesday called Donald Trump Jr.'s email release on last year's Russia meeting "stunning" and challenged Republican legislators to hold the president accountable for Moscow's involvement in last year's election.
"It's stunning to me the wording was used, frankly that this conversation was conducted by email," Mook told Jake Tapper on CNN. "When the Federal Election Commission wants to investigate your campaign, they can go back and pull up these emails.
"In fact, that may be what happens here."
Mook, now a CNN political commentator, questioned whether President Donald Trump himself knew about what transpired in the June 9, 2016, meeting – as it was held in Trump Tower in New York City.
"What did the president know?" he asked Tapper. "He was sitting in Trump Tower the day this meeting happened.
"His campaign manager, his son, his son-in-law were all there," Mook added, referring to Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner. "Do we really think they didn't talk about this?"
He called on Republicans to hold the president accountable for Russian meddling in the election.
"Congress has got to step up – and anybody in that administration who is compromised by Russia has got to get pulled out," Mook told Tapper. "It's just unacceptable."
