An adviser to Hillary Clinton reportedly reached out to a group associated with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who many in the left wing of the party want to challenge the former secretary of state for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2016.
Politico called the sit-down with the founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee "the first sign" Clinton's team is trying to build a bridge to Warren supporters.
Committee founder Adam Green confirmed the meeting, but wouldn't divulge the name of the Clinton aide, or what was talked about, Politico reports.
Politico notes Green's group hasn't joined
draft-Warren efforts led by MoveOn.org
— which has invested $1 million in the push
— and Warren herself insists she's not running for president.
Meanwhile, MoveOn is collaborating with
Democracy for America, which has promised to pony up $250,000 to draft the Massachusetts Democrat, reports say. The groups plan to hire staff and set up offices in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Green’s group aims to keep on pushing Warren's "economic populism," Politico reports, which the senator articulated in what turned out to be a losing congressional fight to keep a provision favorable to big banks out of the recently passed $1.1 trillion spending bill.
"Our unique role is, we’re trying to impact the playing field," Green told Politico.
A Clinton spokesman acknowledged the meeting but declined to comment, Politico reports.
