Democrats have been focused on impeaching President Donald Trump since his 2016 election win, and the current effort is "purely political" at a time when lawmakers should be focused on uniting the country, Rep. Elise Stefanik said Wednesday.

"Democrats are choosing to further divide and further erode and create this partisanship as we head towards the inaugural," the New York Republican said on Fox News's "Fox and Friends." "It's wrong, it's snap impeachment, it is not even going through committees."

Stefanik said she agrees that the violent attacks that took place at the Capitol on Jan. 6 were wrong, and she has condemned them, but so has Trump.

"We should ensure that we have a safe transition on Jan. 20," she said.

Stefanik also had strong words about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to name Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., as an impeachment manager, considering there are still questions concerning his connections with a suspected Chinese spy in the past.

"Eric Swalwell's a puppet for Nancy Pelosi," said Stefanik. "I still think that we deserve answers. We, as his colleagues in Congress, need to know why he was on the House Intelligence Committee."

She also accused Swalwell of concentrating more on opposing Trump than representing his constituents.

"I think it's an embarrassment," she said. "I think the American people can see through it."

Stefanik also spoke out about the decision of Harvard University to remove her from her senior advisory committee position, citing her public assertions about voter fraud in November's election.

"That's not the reason why I was removed from the committee," she said. "Harvard is bowing to the woke left mob ... they are purging supporters of President Trump."

She added that there is "no tolerance" for conservative viewpoints at college campuses nationwide.

"Harvard is already refusing to accept speakers who have worked in the Trump administration, and the people it hurts the most are the students," said Stefanik.
