Donald Trump is thinking well beyond his White House move-in date — the president-elect is planning to keep his campaign headquarters open to position himself for a re-election run in 2020, Politico reported.
Citing three unnamed sources, Politico reported Trump is retaining a campaign staff of around 10 people, led by GOP strategist and campaign adviser Michael Glassner, to work on data-building and fundraising.
Two other Trump aides, Sean Dollman and John Pence – the nephew of Vice President-elect Mike Pence – are also on the team, Politico reported.
The operation will work out of Trump Tower in New York City.
Politico reported the move breaks with tradition. Usually, presidents have transferred their political operations to their national party committees, while their campaigns keep skeleton teams to oversee administrative matters.
The Trump operation is even ready to coordinate with the Republican National Committee on raising funds, and share data, Politico reported.
