Candidates vying for office will spend top dollar to reach voters, Politico reports.
According to a new report from Advertising Analytics and Cross Section Media, $6.7 billion will be spent on political ad campaigns this year.
The projection is up from the $6 billion prediction they made for in 2019.
“In terms of political spend, [the coronavirus] has not impacted it negatively, president and CEO of Advertising Analytics Kyle Roberts told Politico. “These dollars can’t be allocated to ground game right now. That does open up more dollars … that are getting appropriated to the air war.”
The projection estimates a third of the spending, about $2.2 billion, will focus on the presidential election. Congressional races will run up a tab of about $2 billion on ad spots. The prediction is the House will use more money than the Senate.
And the money will be spread out to hit voters across the country, according to the analysts.
Fourteen markets are slated to have at least $100 million in spending with Phoenix, Philadelphia and Atlanta exceeding at least $150 million, according to the report.
