The Committee on House Administration subpoenaed high-ranking officials at five government agencies on Thursday requesting they appear at depositions over concerns federal funds were used to encourage more Democrat voting.
The committee stated the agencies have ignored requests for documentation related to a voter registration push and alleges that each of the agencies used federal funds and resources "to provide Americans with voter registration materials."
EO 14109, an executive order issued by President Joe Biden in March 2021 seeking to expand voter access to registration and information by various means, is under fresh scrutiny. Critics have nicknamed the program "Bidenbucks" and have accused the initiative of being an underhanded way of promoting the registration of Democrat-aligned voters only.
Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., committee chair, sent the letters to Anna Perng at the White House Office of Public Engagement; Kumar Chandran, acting undersecretary for Food Nutrition and Consumer Services; Susan Davies, principal deputy assistant attorney general at the Office of Legal Policy; David Jones at the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and Kimberly Vitelli at the Office of Workforce Investment Employment and Training Administration.
In June, Steil had issued a similar request to 15 other Biden administration Cabinet officials and has yet to receive the requested documents from the original subpoenas.
"Elections are partisan, but our election administration should never be partisan. Allowing federal employees from the Biden administration to flood election administration sites threatens election integrity and reduces Americans' confidence," Steil said in the letter. "This Executive Order is another attempt by the Biden Administration to tilt the scales ahead of 2024. I will continue working to provide transparency and accountability on this Administration's latest scheme as Congress did not appropriate taxpayer funds for partisan activities."
Kyle Brosnan, chief counsel at the Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project told the Washington Examiner on Thursday that the executive order is "nothing more than a mobilization of the federal government to support" Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.
"The Biden-Harris Administration has worked exclusively with ideologically-aligned NGOs and state officials to use your tax dollars to register left-leaning voters and has obstructed all efforts at gaining transparency about the EO's implementation," Brosnan added.
