Republicans Seek Ideas on Economy

Everyone knows that boosting the stagnant economy represents the No. 1 domestic priority. So it makes perfect sense that members of the House Republican Steering Committee are asking their colleagues who seek to chair House committees next year how they would orient their committees’ work to jumpstart the economy and create jobs, The Hill reports.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who is unopposed in his bid to chair the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, answered questions from Steering Committee members Monday.

He says the queries focused on how his committee could help the economy rebound. "I don't have, per se, the capability to deal with unemployment, but I do have a mandate to look at government agencies that are causing unemployment to occur," Issa told The Hill.
"I think all of us in the new majority [are] focused on 'how do we create an environment in which the economy will prosper and jobs will return?'”
