President Donald Trump on Sunday continued his attacks on former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Russia probe in a series of early evening tweets.
“Jeff Sessions should be ashamed of himself for allowing this total HOAX to get started in the first place,” Trump tweeted in a post that first quoted Daniel Henninger, a columnist for The Wall Street Journal.
Henninger on Fox News suggested prosecutors were looking for a way to charge Trump through former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“Thank you, people are starting to see and understand what this Witch Hunt is all about,” Trump said in response.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller has so far implicated more than 20 Russians and five of Trump’s former associates, including Richard Gates, Paul Manafort, George Papadopoulos, Michael Cohen and Flynn.
Cohen last week was sentenced to three years in prison after telling a federal judge that his “blind loyalty” to Trump led him to cover up the president’s “dirty deeds.”
Cohen is the first and, so far, only member of Trump’s circle during two years of investigations to go into open court and say the president was involved in a crime.
Trump said the Russian “Witch Hunt Hoax, started as the “insurance policy” long before I even got elected, is very bad for our Country. They are Entrapping people for misstatements, lies or unrelated things that took place many years ago. Nothing to do with Collusion. A Democrat Scam!”
