President Donald Trump touted the fact that Kuwait has purchased American-made products during a joint press conference with that country's leader Thursday.

Trump and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the emir of Kuwait, spoke in the East Room of the White House Thursday afternoon. Trump kicked off the event by referencing how Kuwait is boosting the U.S. economy.

Kuwait is "making tremendous investments in our country. They have great confidence in our country," Trump said during his opening remarks.

Trump said Sheikh Sabah asked him earlier this year to "expedite a $5 billion agreement for the sale of American FA-18 Super Hornet fighter jets for Kuwait. I am pleased to report the State Department has now authorized this transferred purchase, which will not only strengthen our mutual security, but will greatly benefit American workers."

Trump added that Kuwait has taken delivery of 10 Boeing 777 airplanes this year as well.

"They're beauties. American workers build the best planes in the world, by far, and we want them to be made available for those countries that want them," Trump said.

"And Kuwait has been a big buyer of commercial airliners made by Boeing and others."
