President Donald Trump will speak Wednesday in Reno, Nevada at the National Convention of the American Legion, according to a White House announcement reported by CNN.

Several thousand veterans will meet at the convention, according to Nevada TV station KSNV News3LV.

"Whatever he says, I hope it's a message of healing, because the country is kind of broken at this point. Anything he says to bring the country closer together is what we're looking to hear," said John Rupe, an Army veteran, in the News3LV report.

The appearance will be Trump's first visit to the state as president. Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate for president, won in Nevada by about 3 points, the News3LV report said.

Air Force veteran Victor Moss said Trump would get a positive reception at the convention.

"The amazing thing about the American Legion is regardless of who's sitting in the Oval Office — that is the commander in chief. I've been at national conventions when President (Barack) Obama spoke, and it was a friendly crowd for that as well. We tend to put our political and partisan difference aside in respect to the president," Moss said in the News3LV report.

Protesters are also planning to attend Trump's Reno appearance, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Groups including Black Lives Matter Reno-Sparks, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada Action Fund, and Northern Nevada Working Families are planning to protest Trump upon his arrival at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, the Gazette-Journal report said.

The organizers said the protests would be peaceful, according to the Gazette-Journal.

Sharon Brown, Action Together Nevada president, said the protests were a criticism of Trump's comments on the Charlottesville, Virginia violence, as well as "to show everyone that the left supports our veterans," Brown said in the Gazette-Journal.

"Many of us Democrats have served in the military, and there are many of us out there that have lost our loved ones, too," Brown said in the Gazette-Journal's report.
