President Donald Trump's eldest son went on the attack against incumbent Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont. — calling him the "liberal lapdog" of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
In a scathing opinion piece for the Great Falls, Montana, Tribune posted Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. laid into a candidate whom the president has targeted after Tester derailed the nomination of Veterans Affairs nominee, White House doctor Ronny Jackson.
Trump was expected to hold a rally in Great Falls on Thursday to support Tester's Republican challenger, State Auditor Matt Rosendale.
"There's too much at risk to allow Sen. Tester to remain in the Senate and thwart my father's agenda," the younger Trump declared, asserting: "when he's voting in Washington, D.C., he's nothing more than Chuck Schumer's liberal lapdog."
According to Trump Jr., Tester "pretends he's willing to work with President Trump to Make America Great Again, but his Chuck Schumer-approved, liberal record proves otherwise."
"Tester has voted no on tax cuts, no on repealing and replacing Obamacare, no on cracking down on sanctuary cities, no on repealing stifling regulations, and has continually supported gun control measures that would restrict our precious 2nd Amendment rights — all of which runs directly counter to my father's America First agenda," he argued.
"Sen. Tester's voting record is nearly as radical as liberal extremists like Elizabeth Warren," he stated, adding: "In this Congress, Tester has voted with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer 84 percent of the time and with his Democratic Caucus 85 percent of the time."
Trump Jr. ticked off a list of issues and votes that put Tester at odds with the president, including being in "the top 10" for donations from lobbyists, voting "with Barack Obama's leftwing agenda nearly 95 percent of the time," voting against a Senate plan to crack down on sanctuary cities, and voting against "Kate's Law," a bill hiking penalties for illegal immigrants who re-enter the country after being deported.
"Additionally, Tester wants to scare Montanans into thinking the Trump administration intends to sell off the state's public land," Trump Jr. wrote. "That's just not true."
