President Donald Trump might look to his social media director Dan Scavino as he seeks to bring onboard a new communications chief, at least according to one report.
CNN claimed that Scavino, who served as the Trump campaign's director of social media, could slide into the role left vacant by Hope Hicks.
Hicks' last day at the White House was Thursday, and CNN noted that Scavino has already moved into her old office space — which is so close to Trump's desk that all Trump needs to do is shout and Scavino will hear him.
CNN cited White House aides who described Scavino as Trump's "mini me." It's been reported that whenever Trump tweets during the work day, Scavino — and until this week Scavino and Hicks — is generally in the Oval Office with the president, crafting the tweet. Now it seems that Scavino may end up in Hicks' old job.
It's worth pointing out that Scavino is the only person who worked for Trump's campaign when it launched who is still working for him.
Hicks announced her intention to resign a month ago, which kicked off weeks of speculation about who will replace her. White House director of strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp and Treasury Department spokesman Tony Sayegh have been mentioned as possible successors, while counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway could land the position on a temporary basis.
Scavino would not comment to CNN about its story. But the network reported that Scavino is the only person other than Trump who has constant access to Trump's Twitter account — other than the president himself.
