President Donald Trump surveyed members of his ritzy Florida getaway Mar-a-Lago about whether he should advocate gun control measures in the wake of last week's massacre just 40 miles south of his resort, The Washington Post reported.

Further, the Post reported that Trump was monitoring the myriad speeches and media appearances of surviving students who are galvanized against guns in the wake of the shooting last week in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 students, teachers and administrators.

It's not clear what advice Trump received from his resort's patrons, but the White House announced Monday that Trump is in favor of improving the federal background check system.

Trump visited with victims and first responders at a Parkland-area hospital Friday night before retreating to Mar-a-Lago for the rest of the weekend, where he would a day later blame the FBI for the massacre in Florida.

Though the FBI has admitted a failure in protocol to investigate a direct tip about the Parkland shooter, officials say it wasn't due to a lack of personnel; the FBI employs 35,000 people.
