President Donald Trump reportedly asked CIA officials why they allowed a suspected terrorist target to move away from a private home where his family was before launching a drone strike at him.

The Washington Post cited an official who attended a meeting with Trump and members of the CIA who said the president was shown video of a drone strike in Syria.

The CIA operator in charge of remotely pulling the drone's trigger waited until the target was away from his family before firing.

"Why did you wait?" the person remembered Trump as asking.

The Post pointed out that during Trump's presidential campaign, he promised to "take out" terrorists' families.

The news outlet offered no other information from the alleged meeting between Trump and CIA officials, not did it offer further context to his alleged remark.

Trump has boasted about the military's success against the Islamic State (ISIS) during his presidency. It was reported last week that he wants to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria, although this week he agreed to keep them there for the time being.
