Some of President-elect Donald Trump's top advisers are reportedly huddling Monday night with House Speaker Paul Ryan about tax reform.
According to the Washington Post, the private talks – focusing on one of the biggest Republican projects of the year – will include Reince Priebus, the incoming White House chief of staff and longtime Ryan friend; Stephen Bannon, formerly of Goldman Sachs who was former chairman of Breitbart News; Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, confidant and senior adviser; Stephen Miller, Trump's chief speechwriter and policy aide; and Gary Cohn, who until recently was president of Goldman Sachs and will now serve as director of the National Economic Council.
The Post, citing two unnamed sources, said Ryan will go through a House Republican tax proposal included in the party's "A Better Way" agenda.
And though Trump supports trade protectionism and tariffs – while Ryan backs free-trade agreements – their shared desire to position the GOP as the party of tax cuts and growth could bridge that ideological gap, the Post reported.
