Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., took aim at President Donald Trump’s Friday comments about fired FBI director James Comey, comparing Trump’s comments about Comey to reports that Trump was set to pardon Scooter Libby, a former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.
"You just signed off on a pardon for Scooter Libby, who leaked the covert identity of a CIA officer and was convicted of obstruction of justice and lying to investigators," Beyer tweeted.
On Friday morning, Trump slammed Comey, calling him a "leaker and liar."
Reports that Trump planned to pardon Libby appeared Friday, with ABC News saying Trump had already signed off on the pardon.
Libby was convicted in 2007 for lying to the FBI about the leaked identity of former CIA agent Valerie Plame. Multiple people said Libby had revealed Plame’s identity to them, but Libby had publicly said he did not share that information, The Hill reported.
