Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., remains unconvinced Russia is behind the hacking of a Democratic National Committee server, The Washington Post reported.
The congressman referred to Veteran Intelligence Professionals For Sanity (VIPS), a group skeptical of Russian interference.
"The government said it's got to be a hack. . . I'll see if (VIPS) now have changed their minds, because they had a technical explanation . . . I don't want to jump to conclusions," Rohrabacher said, the Post reported.
Rohrabacher talked July 3 with local news station Fox LA, saying the hacking could have been an "inside job" and a years-long cover-up, the Post reported.
He added Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, could prove the Russians' lack of involvement.
"If we could in some way guarantee that he can get out of the Ecuadorian embassy . . . he has absolute proof, just actual, not just words, but he's got proof that the Russians did not hack," Rohrabacher told Fox LA.
Rohrabacher's opponent in the November midterms, Democrat Harley Rouda, has taken aim at Rohrabacher's comments.
"American intelligence agencies all agree that Russia interfered in our elections," said Rouda, the Post reported. "Every American, especially 30-year members of Congress, need to be focused on protection our democracy from foreign attacks. Yet, Dana is sadly incapable of doing that."
