Television Hall of Famer Barry Diller said Sunday there’s “no chance” of an economic rebound this fall.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” the IAC/InterActiveCorp and Expedia Group head gave a grim assessment of a quick comeback from the devastating impact of the coronavirus economic shutdown.
Saying there’s “no chance” of a rebound this fall, and predicting “widespread bankruptcies,” Diller added: “To anyone who thinks this economy is going to bounce you have to have the idea of a rubber ball that is not in existence.”
According to Diller, what the private sector needs at this point is more federal guidance on reopening.
The Trump administration isn’t providing that roadmap, he maintained.
“Unfortunately we have a witch doctor as a president,” he said of President Donald Trump.
Diller also dismissed any chance for social distancing on a plane — an idea discussed for getting the devastated airline industry back in the air.
“The idea that you can take the middle seat out of an airplane and have any kind of ‘social distancing’ is absurd,” Diller said.
