Ex-U.S. Homeland Security intelligence official Brian Murphy on Friday testified before the House Intelligence Committee regarding a whistleblower complaint he filed over the summer where he accused acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf of telling him to stop providing assessments of the threat of Russian interference in the Nov. 3 presidential election, reports ABC News.
Murphy, in his complaint, said Wolf told him to instead play up political interference threats posed by China and Iran and to highlight the involvement of left-wing groups in protests.
Murphy, who served as the head of the Homeland Security’s intelligence division until August, completed his interview with the Democratic-led panel behind closed doors on Capitol Hill.
He was expected to meet with representatives of DHS’ Inspector General’s office and the department’s Transportation Security Administration.
Murphy was initially supposed to meet with the House Intelligence Committee in a closed-door deposition in September, but his testimony was delayed while Murphy and his lawyers sought access to records, including highly-classified materials he handled while running DHS intelligence, and while his lawyers sought high-level security clearances.
A spokesperson with DHS told ABC it ''flatly'' denied Murphy’s claims.
